FAQ
Scar camouflage - Medical tattooing
Is my scar suitable
Not all scars are suitable for camouflage treatments. Like all procedures, there are specific contraindications and factors to consider:
Scars That Aren't Fully Healed: Scars should typically be over a year old before treatment to ensure the body has completed its natural healing process. Keloid Scars & True Hypertrophic Scars: Patients with keloid problems or who have developed a raised scar after surgery or a tattoo previously, may not be good candidates for this procedure. Let's discuss your prior scarring with e at your consultation. Patients with active infections/keloid should wait until the infection has cleared before seeking treatment. Dark or Hyperpigmented Scars: Camouflaging a scar significantly darker than the surrounding skin can be challenging. Certain Medical Conditions: Individuals with conditions affecting skin healing, such as hemophilia, certain autoimmune diseases, or those on specific medications like blood thinners, may not be ideal candidates. Additionally, I cannot treat those who are pregnant or breastfeeding or under the age of 18. Scars with Uneven Texture and/or Sunken Appearance: If a scar has a markedly different texture from the surrounding skin or is sunken, scar camouflage micropigmentation might not yield a natural look. For many scars, dry needling can be an effective pre-treatment to flatten and condition the scar before undergoing camouflage micropigmentation. If you're uncertain about the suitability of your scar or skin condition for treatment, please come for a consultation, where I assess your situation and provide guidance. |
Benefits of Scar Camouflaging
Will it hurt
My clients describe the discomfort 2/5.
If your scarring has sensation, a numbing agent can be applied before the treatment. |
Risks
Scar camouflage is a very low-risk procedure as long as the aftercare instructions are followed. If you don’t, there is a risk of infection which may cause color loss, but by following my aftercare plan you will be able to enjoy scar camouflage without any complications.
How many sessions do I need
You will require anything between 1-4 sessions to get the desired result, you will see a change in the color of the scar after each session and a decision to continue each session can be made after the healing period. Each person and case is unique.
How long do the results last
The results are permanent once you have healed. That does not mean that one treatment solves all problems. Most of the time it is required multiple treatments.
