Road to the Tattooing World
In March 2025 I have been interviewed by a great copywriter from my daughter's school, who wrote about my professional journey.
(Thanks Oli :) I'd like to share it here, because that reflects the love, the passion I have for my job and a unique way I work. Dorisz Walker
Dorisz Walker is a Salisbury-based medical and cosmetic permanent makeup artist, specializing in scar camouflage, body tattooing, and other forms of skin-deep restoration and enhancement. For seven years and counting, she has continuously gained experience and expertise in working with the complexities of skin and scars around the body to deliver exceptional results.
‘Doris PMU Beauty’ is not her first successful business, however… Dorisz came to England from her native Hungary in 2007 – “to see what I could make happen for myself” – having already gained her Economics & Environmental Engineering degree and worked in the hazardous waste and fitness software industries. She arrived with £200 and all the business savvy she’d inherited from her father (a successful shop owner) and acquired at university. After two years climbing the ladder in the BP service station network, Dorisz moved to Bournemouth, where a dog-grooming job ad caught her eye. |
Dorisz was hired on a two-year contract. As anticipated, she enjoyed the work and proved very good at it. She soon decided that she wanted her own dog-grooming business.
“I knew it would need significant upfront investment, so I started planning and saving. When you start a new business, you need to focus on the business, not the bills. Building a starter fund can help with that.” When her contract completed, Dorisz used her savings to buy a van and equipment, and moved to Oxford with her partner, who was serving in the army. Dorisz believes that good fortune favours the decisive, and it certainly did for her: “Another dog groomer left Oxford as I arrived – I was fully booked within six months!” Dorisz ran her business for six years and Dorisz chose full-time parenting. When a good opportunity to sell the van presented itself, she took it, saying goodbye to her dog-grooming career. “I needed to find work again, but what to do? I didn’t want to go back to being an employee, and I needed something I could fit around raising two girls.” Dorisz knew she was good with people and enjoyed helping others. She explored becoming a counsellor but discovered it would take too long to qualify. At the same time, she decided to invest in some permanent makeup for herself and found her future in the process. Dorisz arranged to have the treatment in Hungary (2017), where the quality she wanted was more affordable. The experience was a revelation – she was delighted with the results, impressed by the new technologies and techniques, and inspired by the practice. “It was so dignified, skilled and artistic; so much more than I’d expected. I thought, ‘I could do this’, and I suddenly saw the opportunity to bring affordable, high quality permanent makeup to Salisbury. It was very exciting.” The studio in Budapest also offered training. After careful consideration, Dorisz booked onto the next available course. “I stopped looking for any other kind of work. This was it – I didn’t want anything else.” For Dorisz, being a permanent makeup artist is all she believed it would be, especially with her expansion into body, medical tattoos and scar camouflage. |
“I wanted to make a real difference for others – mums and mature ladies in particular – and in this work I get to use my creative skills as well – it’s perfect!”
Through her sensitive consultancy and life-changing artistry, Dorisz does more than help her customers get back their time or reinvigorate their look. She enables vulnerable individuals to reclaim their quality of life, overcome trauma, and rebuild self-esteem – whether that’s by helping them replace scars with something beautiful, find better ways to express their feelings through body art, or transform something regretted into a new source of joy. Happy tears are not uncommon in her studio.
“I feel blessed to have discovered this career and having the chance to make it happen. I tell my daughters, ‘If you don’t know what to do in life, just open your eyes – opportunity is always there’.”
